Gorilla Workwear is a Durham-based supplier of workwear, uniforms, PPE, safety footwear, and corporate clothing across the UK with a reputation for excellent quality and durability.

Operating as a supplier in such a crowded space, reliable systems and responsive support are key to keeping daily operations running smoothly.

Following a business acquisition, the company needed a trusted IT partner. The key requirements of the partnership would be to take ownership of Gorilla’s tech estate, review the existing setup, and give the team the ongoing support they needed to help with future growth.

Taking control of an inherited IT environment

When we began onboarding Gorilla Workwear, it became clear very quickly that the existing environment needed attention. As is so often the case after an acquisition or a period of major change, parts of the Microsoft 365 environment had been configured inconsistently.

This created needless complexity for users and support teams alike. Email performance issues were affecting usability, while access controls, device management, and general housekeeping were all in need of review.

The volume of support requests was also much higher than expected, driven largely by a lack of standardisation and the absence of a clear support structure. So, the immediate priority for us was to stabilise the environment without disrupting the business and create a stronger foundation for IT management in the future.

Reviewing, securing, and simplifying

Let by our IT Manager, Dean, our team carried out a detailed review of the Microsoft 365 tenant to identify issues and improve overall security. This included resolving configuration problems that were affecting email performance and introducing additional controls to strengthen the company’s security posture.

The project involved:

  • A full Microsoft 365 tenant review and clean-up
  • Resolution of configuration issues impacting email performance
  • Deployment of Microsoft spam filtering controls
  • Implementation of email authentication policies
  • Removal of unknown and inactive devices
  • Restriction of access to active users only
  • Validation and health checks across the wider environment
  • Guidance and support for end users

Alongside this technical work, we also provided enhanced support throughout the transition period to resolve issues quickly and help users adapt to the new environment. Once the onboarding process was finished, Gorilla moved onto a managed IT support service with clearly defined priorities and processes.

With greater stability comes greater growth

This project delivered immediate improvements across both security and day-to-day usability. Emails became more reliable, visibility increases across users and devices, and the business gained confidence that system access was being controlled properly.

By addressing legacy issues early in the onboarding process, Gorilla Workwear was also able to reduce ongoing support challenges and move away from a reactive approach to IT management.

Key outcomes included:

  • A more secure and stable IT environment
  • Improved email performance and reliability
  • Greater visibility of users, devices, and access permissions
  • Reduced security risk through stronger controls
  • Faster resolution of onboarding issues
  • A consistent managed support model
  • Improved efficiency across support delivery

By bringing structure to an inherited environment and addressing key security and operational issues early, we helped Gorilla Workwear gain control of its IT systems during a period of change.

With a stable Microsoft 365 environment and ongoing managed services in place, the business now has the foundations needed to support future growth with confidence.
