Update 07/02/20 – The scheme has now reached the maximum number of submissions. Any new additions will be placed on a waiting list in case of further funding.

Cyber Essentials is the government-backed initiative that was first launched in June 2014. The scheme is primarily aimed at businesses who do not have their own security teams already in place. SMEs and voluntary organisations based in Scotland can apply for vouchers of a value of up to £1000 to gain their Cyber Essentials or Cyber Essentials Plus certification. This is an excellent way to stay ahead of the curve and ensure that your customers and suppliers feel confident that their information is safe with you. It also demonstrates to your employees you keep them secure.

The certification includes review and remediation of:

  • A firewall to secure your internet connection
  • The most secure settings for your devices and software
  • Control over who has access to your data and services
  • Protection from viruses and other types of malware
  • Devices and software being up to date

Another welcome assurance is that Cyber Essentials aspects of emerging risk from GDPR adherence, at a time many businesses haven’t fully made this transition.
